How to Remove a Phone Number in Salesmsg

Overview:
Deleting a phone number involves two main steps:

  1. Remove the Inbox tied to that number.

  2. Permanently delete the now-unassigned number (to stop future billing).

Only Organization Owners or team members with the Admin role can perform these actions. Also, you must be a member of the Inbox you're removing.


Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Make Yourself a Member (if needed)

  • Go to the Inboxes page.

  • Select the relevant Inbox connected to the phone number.

  • Click "Add Members", choose your name, then click "Add Members" to join the Inbox.

2. Remove the Inbox

  • Still on the Inboxes page, select the same Inbox.

  • Navigate to Settings, scroll down, and click "Remove Inbox".

  • You’ll get a prompt to reassign ongoing conversations - do that, then confirm removal.

3. Delete the Phone Number

  • Go to the Numbers page and switch to the "Unassigned" tab.

  • Locate the number, click the vertical ellipsis (⋮), and choose "Release Number".

  • Confirm you understand this action is irreversible.

  • Then decide:

    • Keep the slot (if you plan to replace the number).

    • Remove the slot (to stop paying for that slot).


Removing a Number from a Smart Inbox

If you're dealing with a Smart Inbox (one that holds multiple numbers), it's even simpler:

  1. Go to the Numbers page.

  2. Under the Smart Inbox, click the vertical ellipsis (⋮), and choose "Release Number".

  3. Confirm you understand this action is irreversible, and select where any related conversations should go.


Frequently Asked Questions

Why don't I see the Remove option even though I'm the Inbox owner?
​Being the “Inbox owner” isn’t the same as being the Account Owner or an Admin. Only those roles can remove inboxes or delete numbers.

I released the number but forgot to remove the slot - will I still be charged?
Yes, however you can manage your number slots under the Plan & Billing section using "Manage Numbers" to adjust accordingly.

I'm not an Admin or Owner. What can I do?
Ask your Admin, or the Account Owner to either complete the removal or give you Admin access to do it yourself.
