Integrating with Shopify

Connect Your Shopify to Salesmsg

O
Written by Operations Manager

Connect your Shopify store to Salesmsg to text your customers, keep contact details in sync, and send messages automatically from your Shopify workflows. Your store data and your conversations stay connected, so you spend less time copying information between tools.

How it works

The Shopify integration gives you three ways to work with your store customers:

  • Send texts from Shopify Flow. Add Salesmsg actions to your Shopify Flow workflows to send an SMS or create and update contacts automatically.

  • Keep customers and contacts in sync. Edits made in Shopify or Salesmsg carry over to the other platform for any contact linked to a Shopify customer. You choose which fields sync.

  • Find and message any Shopify customer. Search your Shopify customers from Salesmsg and start a conversation, even if they aren’t a Salesmsg contact yet.

Connect your Shopify store

  1. In Salesmsg, go to Settings and select App Marketplace.

  2. Search for Shopify and click the Shopify tile.

  3. Click Connect.

  4. Sign in to your Shopify store when prompted.

  5. Review the requested permissions and click Install to approve the connection.

  6. You’ll return to Salesmsg, where Shopify now shows as Connected and a Settings tab appears.

If the connection is canceled or fails, Shopify stays Not connected and you’ll see an error message. Click Connect to try again.

Reconnect Shopify

If Shopify shows as Disconnected, your connection needs to be refreshed. Syncing pauses until you reconnect.

  1. Go to Settings and select App Marketplace.

  2. Open the Shopify tile.

  3. Click Connect and sign in to your Shopify store again.

Disconnect Shopify

  1. Go to Settings and select App Marketplace.

  2. Open the Shopify tile.

  3. Click Disconnect.

Disconnecting stops syncing and removes Salesmsg actions from your Shopify workflows. Your existing Salesmsg contacts and Shopify customers are not deleted.

Send texts from Shopify Flow

Once you connect, Salesmsg actions become available in Shopify Flow. This lets your store events trigger texts without any manual work.

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Flow.

  2. Create a new workflow or open an existing one.

  3. Choose the trigger you want, such as a new order or a new customer.

  4. Click Add action and select Salesmsg.

  5. Choose an action:

    • Send SMS to text the customer

    • Create/Update Contact to add or update the customer in Salesmsg

  6. Fill in the action details and click Save.

  7. Turn the workflow on.

Keep customers and contacts in sync

Two-way contact sync keeps your linked contacts up to date without manual upkeep. Update a customer’s name, phone number, or email in Shopify, and the Salesmsg contact updates too. Edit the contact in Salesmsg, and the change carries back to Shopify.

To view your sync settings:

  1. Go to Settings and select App Marketplace.

  2. Open the Shopify tile and click the Settings tab.

  3. Expand Contact syncing. Two-way sync is selected by default.

What to expect:

  • Syncing only applies to contacts that are linked to a Shopify customer. Your full Shopify customer list is not imported.

  • A contact becomes linked when it’s created through a Shopify Flow action or through a Shopify customer search.

  • Contacts and customers are matched by phone number.

  • Only the fields you map are updated. Any other fields stay as they are.

  • Deleting a contact in Salesmsg does not delete the customer in Shopify, and deleting a customer in Shopify does not delete the contact in Salesmsg. The two records simply stop syncing.

Map your contact fields

Property mapping lets you choose which Shopify customer field fills each Salesmsg contact field. When you first connect, Salesmsg maps the fields for you, so syncing works right away.

  1. Go to Settings and select App Marketplace.

  2. Open the Shopify tile and click the Settings tab.

  3. Expand Property mapping. You’ll see how many fields are mapped, such as “4 of 4 fields mapped.”

  4. For each Salesmsg field, choose the Shopify field you want to sync with it:

    • Phone number (required)

    • First name

    • Last name

    • Email

  5. Click Save.

Each dropdown only shows Shopify fields that are compatible with the Salesmsg field. Phone number must be mapped before you can save.

Find and message Shopify customers

You can reach any customer in your Shopify store, even if they aren’t a Salesmsg contact yet.

  1. Start a new conversation or open the contact search.

  2. Search by name, phone number, or email.

  3. Select a result marked as a Shopify customer.

  4. Send your message.

When you message a Shopify customer this way, Salesmsg creates a contact for them. That contact is linked to their Shopify customer record, so it stays in sync from then on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a paid Shopify plan to use Shopify Flow?
Shopify Flow availability depends on your Shopify plan. Check your Shopify plan details to confirm Flow is included.

Will all my Shopify customers be imported into Salesmsg?
No. Only customers you add through a Flow action or message through search become Salesmsg contacts. This keeps your contact list focused on the customers you actually talk to.

Can I send texts to customers who haven't opted in?
Only text customers who have given consent to receive messages. See our SMS opt-in guides for compliance best practices.
