Your agent now has access to your Salesmsg contacts, conversations, messaging tools, and analytics.

Search, Create, and Update Contacts

Tell your agent what you need in plain language. Here are some examples of what you can ask:

  • "Find the contact John Smith"

  • "Create a new contact with phone number 555-123-4567"

  • "Update Sarah's email to [email protected]"

Your agent will search by name, phone, or email and return matching results. When creating a contact, only a phone number is required. Updates apply only to the fields you specify β€” nothing else in the profile is changed.

Pull Contact Profiles and Apply Tags

Ask your agent to pull a full contact profile before sending a message or planning follow-up. The profile includes:

  • Name, phone, and email

  • Tags and custom fields

  • Opt-in status

To apply a tag, tell your agent the tag name or ID. If the tag exists, it is applied immediately. Your agent can also create a new tag if the label does not match an existing one.

Search and Analyze Conversations

Ask your agent to find a conversation by contact name, phone number, or a keyword from the message thread. Once located, your agent can retrieve full conversation details including:

  • Assignee and inbox

  • Status (open, closed, etc.)

  • Participants

This gives your agent the context it needs before taking any next action.

Send SMS

Tell your agent who to message and what to send. You can reference a contact by name or use a phone number directly. If you have multiple Salesmsg inboxes, specify which one to send from.

Opt-out status is checked automatically on every send. If a contact has opted out, the message will not be sent.

Examples:

  • "Send a follow-up text to John Smith from my Sales inbox"

  • "Text 555-987-6543 to confirm their appointment tomorrow"

Report on Your Account Performance

Your agent can read the same reporting that powers your Salesmsg Analytics dashboard, so you can ask "how are we doing?" questions directly in chat. Analytics access is read-only and scoped to your connected account.

You can report on:

  • Messages β€” send and receive volume, delivery rate

  • Calls β€” inbound and outbound volume, average duration

  • Conversations β€” throughput and trends

  • Contacts β€” growth over time

  • Team performance β€” response and resolution times, for the whole team or broken down per agent

  • Credit usage β€” total spend by category, or itemized by source such as broadcasts, automations, and chatbots

Any date range works, and your agent can compare a period against the one before it. You can filter by inbox, phone number, team member, or tag β€” just use the names, and your agent resolves them for you.

Examples:

  • "How many new contacts did we get last month, and how does that compare to the month before?"

  • "How many messages did we send last month, and what was our delivery rate?"

  • "How many calls did we make and receive last week, and what's our average call duration?"

  • "How's the team doing on response times this month versus last month? Can you break that down by agent?"

  • "How many credits did we use this month, broken down by type?"

  • "Show me call activity for the Sales inbox outside business hours"

Time periods use your account timezone automatically, and you can override it by naming a timezone in your question.

Already connected before analytics launched? Reconnect Salesmsg in your AI agent to grant the new analytics permissions. Without reconnecting, analytics questions return a permission error.

What to Expect

  • Your agent authenticates once using your Salesmsg credentials and stays connected

  • All actions run through your existing Salesmsg account and inboxes

  • Opt-out compliance is handled automatically on every SMS send

  • Contact updates apply only to the specific fields you mention β€” other fields are not affected

  • Analytics is read-only β€” your agent can report on your data but never changes it

  • Existing Salesmsg users connect in minutes with no additional setup required

MCP Anayltics

If you connect Claude (or another AI agent) to Salesmsg through the MCP server, you can now ask it questions about your account's performance without opening the dashboard. Just type your question in plain language and get the numbers back in the chat.

What you can ask about

You can ask questions across these areas:

  • Contacts β€” growth and trends over any date range

  • Conversations β€” volume and throughput, with tag filtering

  • Calls β€” volume, average duration, and time-of-day windows

  • Messages β€” volume and delivery rate

  • Team performance β€” response times for the whole team or broken down by individual agent

  • Credit usage β€” total usage by category, or an itemized breakdown by source (like broadcasts, automations, and chatbots)

For any of these, you can ask for a specific time period and get a comparison against the previous period. For example, you could ask "How many new contacts did we get last month, and how does that compare to the month before?" or "Break down our credit usage by source this month."

How it works

  • Your agent can look up inboxes, numbers, team members, or tags by name. You don't need to know internal IDs.

  • All the data returned is scoped to your own account and is read only. The agent can view your analytics but can't change anything.

  • Results match what you'd see on your Analytics dashboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a separate login to use Salesmsg via MCP?

No. You authenticate using your existing Salesmsg username and password during the initial connection. No separate credentials are needed.

Does this work with AI agents other than Claude?

Yes. Salesmsg MCP Tools work with any MCP-compatible AI agent, not just Claude Web or Claude Desktop.

Analytics questions return a permission error. What do I do?

Reconnect Salesmsg in your AI agent. Analytics was added after the original connection was released, so connections created before then do not include analytics permissions. Removing and re-adding the connector grants them. Credit usage reporting also requires billing permissions on your Salesmsg account.

Can my agent export reports to a file?

No. Your agent can report the numbers in the conversation, but CSV and other file exports are not available through MCP. Use the Analytics dashboard in Salesmsg for exports.

Can I send from any inbox?

Yes. When sending SMS, you can specify which Salesmsg inbox to send from. If you do not specify, your agent will use your default inbox.

What happens if a contact has opted out?

Your agent checks opt-out status automatically before sending. If the contact has opted out, the message will not be sent.
