Spam Link Blocking

How Salesmsg automatically blocks suspicious links to protect your sender reputation, and what to do if your message is blocked.

Written by Operations Manager

Salesmsg automatically checks every link in your outgoing messages. If a link is flagged as suspicious (for example, phishing, malware, or a low-reputation domain), the message is stopped before it goes out. This protects your numbers from carrier filtering and blocklisting, so one bad link can't hurt your deliverability.

How it works

Spam Link Blocking is on automatically. There is nothing to enable or configure.

Links are checked everywhere you send from Salesmsg:

  • Messages you send yourself: conversations in the web and mobile apps, CRM widgets (HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive), the Chrome extension, Zapier, and the Public API

  • Automated and bulk messages: Broadcasts, Campaigns, Workflows, Triggers, Surveys, AI Agents, and Review requests

Shortened links are followed to their real destination, and that destination is what gets checked. A short link that leads to a safe page sends normally. A short link that hides a flagged page is blocked.

What happens when a link is blocked

Messages you send yourself

The message is marked as failed with the reason "Suspicious content detected. No credits charged." You are not charged any credits. From the failed message, you can start a live chat with our Support team.

Broadcasts, Campaigns, Workflows, and other automations

Links are checked when you create or save the item. If a link is flagged, you'll see "Suspicious content detected. Please contact a support." and the item won't be saved or sent. Existing items that fail the check are marked Invalid. From the notification, you can start a live chat with our Support team.

Scheduled and recurring items are checked again right before they send. This catches links whose destination changed after you saved them (for example, a third-party short link that was later redirected).

Messages with more than one link

If any link in a message is flagged, the whole message is blocked.

What to do if your link is safe

  1. Start a live chat with our Support team, either from the failed message or item, or from the chat bubble in the app.

  2. Share the link or domain that was blocked. Our team will review it and, if it's legitimate, approve it so future messages send normally.

  3. Once approved, duplicate and resend the blocked message, Broadcast, or other item. Approving a link does not resend anything that was already blocked.

If you use your own branded short domain, we approve your real destination domain. That covers your shortened links too, because the destination is what gets checked.

Tips to avoid blocks

Frequently Asked Questions

Was I charged for the blocked message?
No. Blocked messages never charge credits.

Can I turn Spam Link Blocking off?
No. It protects your account and our shared sending reputation. If a safe link is blocked, start a live chat with our Support team and we'll review it.

Will my blocked message send automatically once my link is approved?
No. Duplicate the message or item and send it again.

Can I still use shortened links?
Yes. We check where the short link actually leads, so short links to safe pages send normally.

What if the link check is temporarily unavailable?
Your message still sends. Messages are only blocked when a link is confirmed as suspicious.

Why didn't I see a reason in the Chrome extension?
Blocking applies in the Chrome extension, but the block reason isn't shown there yet. Check the conversation in the web app to see the reason.

Is this the same as keyword filtering?
No. Spam Link Blocking only checks links. Content rules are covered in Restricted Messaging Content.
