What is a Short Code?
A short‑code is a special 5‑ or 6‑digit number you use to send & receive SMS/MMS messages.
It’s meant for messaging large audiences (thousands of contacts).
Using a short‑code helps avoid having your messages flagged as spam by mobile carriers.
Note: Short codes are only available on Premium plans in Salesmsg.
When You Can’t Use a Short Code
There are certain uses or industries where short codes are restricted - meaning you won’t be allowed to use them. Some of these are:
Restricted Use Case | Examples |
Illegal products/services federally or in any U.S. state | Anything banned or heavily regulated across the board |
“High‑risk” financial services | Such as certain loans, debt relief, etc. |
Gambling | Lotteries, betting, etc. |
Work & investment opportunity promotions | Scams or risky investment pitches |
Lead‑generation where info is shared with 3rd parties | If you’re collecting personal data and selling/sharing it |
Competing directly with telco services | For example, if your messaging competes with what phone companies offer |
